Straw Bale Chapel
A round chapel with a reciprocal frame roof and structural straw bale walls in North Wales. I was involved in the project from inception and ran it since planning, developing technical details and managing the construction, which has mostly been self-build. I helped build the straw bale walls and timber roof structure and boarding. The slating was done by professional roofers. The round-wood reciprocal frame structure creates a spiral that holds up the roof and will be visible inside the finished building. Each timber rests on the previous one to create an elegant and efficient structure. The straw bale walls were lime rendered with the help of John Butler.
