1930s Retrofit
Architect: Grain Architecture
Main Contractor: Eco-Renovation UK
Andy worked on this Grain Architecture project from Inception to Completion.
The house was almost fully insulated; the wall cavities were filled and the walls were insulated externally with rigid woodfibre insulation, with a breathable silone render, and XPS plinth insulation. The suspended ground floors were insulated and made airtight by draping wind-tight breather membrane over the floor joists to support flexible woodfibre insulation between the joists, and an airtight vapour control membrane (VCL) was installed over the joists and insualtion. The boiler was replaced with a low-carbon Air Source Heat Pump, and the windows and doors were replaced with high performance, triple glazed, timber frame units by Nordan.
