Replacement Low Energy Home
Andy worked on this Grain Architecture project from inception to tender, when Andy Hales Ecological Architect & Consultant took over the project. The original scheme was to alter, retrofit & extend this existing dormer bungalow, including replacing the roof and first floor with a full second storey. Due to the costs the plan shifted to a full replacement dwelling with the same design. The proposal is for a low energy timber frame house with pre-fab walls and roofs insulated with natural materials and a Passivhaus standard insulated slab ground floor. The house will be insulated and sealed for airtightness to AECB CarbonLite Standard, and will be ventialted with a whole house ventilation system with heat recovery. The interior of the house will be completely re-arranged to suit the cliets' needs including a large kitchen/dining with full a wide bi-folding window above the kitchen counter. The proposed scheme includes a mix of render to the ground floor, charred timber cladding to the first floor, and Cor-ten cladding to the front wing.
